Dear Aliens,
The Earth is a scary place. It is full of hate, cruelty, and destruction: there’s rape, murder, all kinds of misdeeds. Not to mention, the people starving and homeless, while other people have 12 cars and a golden chihuahua…. Injustice. Discrimination. Exclusivity when there should be Inclusivity. Conformity in a world of diversity. Living on such a planet is hard.
So, if I haven’t completely discouraged you from coming over here, if you can deal with all that, let me tell you how to live.
To live is to love something. Anything. And there is so much to love: singing, dancing, fashion, teaching, helping others, art, and more. Building and creating something special! Something fabulous.
Self-expression is the name of the game when it comes to life.
And then comes survival. In order to live, you must first ensure survival as best you can. But this can look very different depending on your journey as an individual. Surviving can be studying every day to ensure you get into dental school, or it can mean working a dead-end job so you can get home at night and sing your heart out with a roof over your head.
We, humans, are not exempt from the circle of life, so we win by leaving behind something we can be proud of. Any version of a legacy. For some, that’s children, others it’s a cure for a disease, or the fact that they built something that will stand for years after they depart.
So yeah, alien, this is Earth. My home. My spaceship. And regardless of its flaws, it can be a really beautiful place.
Kindest regards,
Edidiong C
